Gender Affirming
Hormone Therapy

Affirming Your Identity

Equality Health provides adult gender-affirming hormone therapy consultations in a respectful, inclusive primary-care setting. Equality Health GPs support patients to explore their goals and treatment options using an informed-consent approach. This includes discussion of expected effects, risks, fertility considerations, alternatives, baseline investigations and ongoing monitoring.

Booking a consultation does not guarantee that hormone therapy will be prescribed. Treatment decisions are made after individual clinical assessment and may involve blood tests, review of medical history, discussion of mental health and wellbeing, and referral to another clinician where specialist input is appropriate.

Hormone therapy may be helpful for some people, but it is not suitable for everyone and can involve risks. Depending on the treatment, these may include changes to fertility, sexual function, mood, weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, liver function, red blood cell count, clotting or cardiovascular risk, and physical changes that may be partly or fully irreversible. Your GP will discuss the risks and monitoring relevant to your circumstances before treatment is commenced.

This adult primary-care pathway is for people aged 18 years and over. Young people under 18 require age-appropriate consent processes and specialist or multidisciplinary care.
